Jennifer Diaz is a Chambers ranked, Board Certified international attorney, author, public speaker, and is considered a leading expert in International Trade Law by The Florida Bar. She is the founder of Diaz Trade Law, the most diverse customs and international trade law firm in South Florida. Established in 2016, the woman-led, multi-lingual law firm specializes in import and export transactions, compliance with U.S. federal government agencies laws and regulations, and enforcement mitigation.
Mrs. Diaz is an expert in working with the many Federal agencies that regulate trade, including the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). She handles issues relating to “pre-compliance” including ensuring compliance with federal government agencies prior to importation or exportation. She assists clients with intellectual property right (IPR) protection, including recordation with CBP of trademarks and copyrights registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Mrs. Diaz successfully assists clients in navigating and ensuring compliance with CBP laws and regulations. This includes proper assessment of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), compliant country of origin labeling, valuation and free trade agreement usage. She routinely requests Binding Rulings from CBP to assist her clients with all necessary pre-compliance needs to ensure the use and documentation of “reasonable care”.
She is passionate about assisting clients with successfully navigating CBP detentions, seizures, forfeitures, and mitigating of fines and penalties assessed by CBP. She has vast experience in assisting with responding to CBP Requests for Information (CBP Form 28), responding to Notices of Action (CBP Form 29), and submitting Protests to CBP. Mrs. Diaz frequently assists companies in applying for and being accepted into the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program, assisting with validations, as well as yearly updates and ongoing training. She ensures companies are in compliance with FDA by reviewing product labeling, assisting with registration and any necessary pre-market approval requirements for food, cosmetic, over the counter drug, dietary supplements, alcohol, tobacco and medical device products. She specializes in assisting in mitigating the impact of enforcement actions by federal government agencies. She successfully handles FDA detentions, refusals, voluntary recalls, removal from FDA’s import alert list, and responses to warning letters and FDA 483 inspection observations.
Beyond her legal practice, Diaz has been a champion of global organizations within her industry internationally as well as locally in South Florida. Since 2006 her she has been committed to the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT), a worldwide nonprofit organization that focuses fostering international trade and the advancement of women in business. Diaz served as the both the South Florida chapter President (2010-2011) and as the international President (2019-2020), overseeing over 20 chapters, with 3,000 members in eight countries across the globe, and leading capacity building workshops and conferences in Nairobi, Kenya and Tampa, Florida.
Named to the Super Lawyers List as a “Top International Attorney” since 2017, Diaz is a frequent contributor to Bloomberg Law, the American Bar Association (ABA), and The Florida Bar, authoring numerous articles and chapters of leading books on import, export, customs laws and international trade. She is also the editor of the prominent “Customs & International Trade Law” blog, listed as a top web resource under the United States Library of Congress.

Prior to starting Diaz Trade Law, Diaz was a partner at a leading South Florida law firm, serving as the practice leader of the Customs and International Trade group. She also served as an adjunct professor for Broward College from 2013-2017, creating the first international business law course for the new supply chain and logistics programs.
